WhatsApp has expanded its joinable calls’ feature by allowing the users to join an ongoing group call.
The joinable calls feature had been introduced in July, enabling the users to answer a group call even after it is started instead of participants joining exactly when the call is made.
While announcing the expanded version, WhatsApp said, “So, now group calls are contextual to your group chats and you can effortlessly join them right from the chat tab.”
“With group calling growing in popularity, integrating joinable calls gives WhatsApp users a new spontaneous way to connect with their family and friends groups,” it added.
With the new feature, the users can now call a WhatsApp group and join the call directly from the group chat besides being able to join the ongoing calls with the groups anytime from the chat view with one tap.
The notification will mention the name of the group instead of the participants’ names.
However, only those can join the call who are part of the WhatsApp groups and the call will show in the chat list to facilitate the users to see which groups have ongoing calls immediately after opening the messaging app.
The new feature will have a lighter distinct ringtone.
